North McKinney, by contrast, is some of the newest construction in Collin County: 9- and 10-foot ceilings, predictable stud spacing, and a flex room already drawn on the plan.
In the historic district, measurement is the whole job. Plaster over old framing needs the right anchors identified before install day; tall ceilings are an advantage for vertical models, and the closet deficit often means a chest bed with real drawer storage beats a plain wall bed. Original stained trim also means finish matching rather than approximating; a white flat-panel cabinet in a 1915 house looks airlifted in.
In the new-build north, the opportunity is timing. Do you deliver to McKinney?
Yes, regularly. McKinney is about 45 minutes from the Keller showroom and inside our core service area, so there is no distance premium and our own crew handles the install.
Can you install a wall bed in a historic home near the square?
Usually yes, and measurement matters more here than anywhere else in Collin County. Plaster over older framing and non-standard stud spacing need identifying before install day rather than discovering on it. Where a wall genuinely cannot carry a bed safely, we say so and recommend a freestanding cabinet or chest bed instead.
My historic house has almost no closet space. Any help there?
Look at chest beds. They are freestanding, taller and narrower than a cabinet bed, and include real drawer storage alongside the folding bed – which addresses the storage deficit and the guest bed in one piece of furniture, in a footprint a small older bedroom can actually spare.
Our house is still being built. When should we talk to you?
At framing, before drywall. Send us elevations, and we will tell you which models fit the wall runs and ceiling heights already drawn, and where blocking would help – changes that are free now and expensive later. We do this with McKinney builders often.
We have 10-foot ceilings. Does that change anything?
It works in your favor. Tall ceilings give vertical wall beds plenty of clearance and leave room for a taller cabinet with crown detail, which is what makes the finished piece read as built-in casework rather than as furniture.
