Measure Upstairs and Downstairs Separately in Allen

Allen went up largely between 1995 and 2010, and the era brought a specific quirk we run into constantly here. Builders gave the ground floor nine-foot plates and the upper floor eight. Homeowners measure one room, assume the rest of the house matches, and pick a model that will not clear upstairs where the guest room usually is.

It is an easy thing to get right and an expensive thing to get wrong. A vertical queen wants the taller ceiling; a horizontal fold does not care, because it swings from the side of the bed rather than the head. When we quote an Allen house, we ask for both measurements, and about half the time the answer is a vertical downstairs and a horizontal upstairs.

The other steady driver here is youth sports. Do you deliver and install in Allen?
Yes. Allen sits about 45 minutes from the Keller showroom and is inside our core service area, so there is no distance premium, and our own crew carries out the install.
Why do you ask for two ceiling measurements?
Allen houses commonly have nine-foot ceilings downstairs and eight upstairs, and the guest room is usually upstairs. Quoting off the downstairs number is how people end up with a bed that will not open in the room they bought it for. Send both, and we will tell you what fits where.
We host family several weekends a year. Does that change the recommendation?
It does. A dozen weekends a year is real use, and it is enough to justify a wall bed with a full-thickness standard mattress rather than a cabinet bed with a folding one. Folding mattresses are fine for occasional nights and start to show wear at that frequency.
Can a wall bed share a room with a pool table?
Usually, and it is a common Allen request. What matters is clearance in front of the bed when it is down, not the wall itself. Give us the room dimensions with the table’s position marked and we will confirm it before you order.
